Radio-anatomical Studies on the Trabeculae of the Sponge Bone of the Alveolar Part of the Maxillae in the Korean Subjects.

Abstract
Authors were observed 20 cases upon distribution, arrangement and density of the trabeculae of the sponge bone in the alveolar part of the maxillae, which was sectioned parallel to line pass through longitudinal axis of the each tooth, which were observed by roentgen examination.
1. Arrangement of the trabeculae of the sponge bone were as follows:
a. Anterior teeth was horizontal and vertically arranged in the retroalveolar spongiosa.
b. 1 st premolar was vertically arranged toward maxillary sinus.
c. 2 nd premolar and molars was horizontal and vertically arranged toward maxillary sinus
2. Density of the trabeculae of the sponge bone were as follows:
a. Anterior teeth was closely gathered in the retroalveolar spongiosa.
b. 1 st premolar was moderatly gathered in the retroalveolar spongiosa.
c. 2 nd premolar was closely gathered. and moderatly irn the retroalveolar spongiosa.
d. Mesial part of the 1 st and 2 nd molars was scattered as beehouse like space.
e. Distal part of the 1 st and 2 nd molars was moderatly gathered and scattered as beehonse like space.
f. 3rd molar was moderatly gathered in the retroalveolar spongiosa.
3. Distribution of the trabeculae of the sponge bone were as follows:
a. Sponge bone of the central and lateral incisors was located in inner alveolar process and above the root apex.
b. Sponge bone of the canine was located above the root apex.
c. Sponge bone of the 1st and 2nd premolars was similar to that of the incisors.
d. Sponge bone of the mesial part of the 1 st molar, 2 nd molar and 3 rd molar was located in inner alveolar process, above the root apex and apical 1/2 part of the outer alveolar process.
f. Sponge bone of the distal part of the 1 st and 2 nd molars was located in inner alveolar process, 1/2 apical part of the outer alveolar process and above the root apex.
4. Position of the apex of the root were as follows:
a. Central incisor was fused with outer alveolar process.
b. In a high percentage, the apical part of the root of the lateral incisor was sharply curved lingually and its apical foramen was placed in or near the center of the retroalveolar spongiosa and rather distant from the outer alveolar process.
c. 1 st premolar was fused with outer and inner alveolar processes causing has two roots.
d. Mesial part of the 1 st, 2 nd molars and 3 rd molar was placed in or near the center of the retroalveolar spongiosa and fused with outer alveolar process.
e. Distal part of the 1 st and 2 nd molars was placed in retroalveblar spongiosa and fused outer and inner alveolar processes causing has two roots.
